Seeing without entering
Moses climbs, God shows him everything from Dan to the Negev, and he dies with the promise in his eyes. Nobody knows his grave. God buried him.
Stop 13 of 84. 46 km from Jerusalem. Next stop, The Jordan and Gilgal, is 23 km away.
1Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. Yahweh showed him all the land of Gilead, to Dan, 2and all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, to the western sea, 3and the south, and the Plain of the valley of Jericho the city of palm trees, to Zoar. 4Yahweh said to him, “This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.” 5So Moses the servant of Yahweh died there in the land of Moab, according to Yahweh’s word. 6He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth Peor, but no man knows where his tomb is to this day. 7Moses was one hundred twenty years old when he died. His eye was not dim, nor his strength gone. 8The children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the days of weeping in the mourning for Moses were ended.

The last thing Moses does is see. God takes him up Nebo and shows him the whole land, Gilead to Dan, Judah to the sea, the Negev, the plain of Jericho, and says: I have let you see it with your eyes. This short film flies that view over the real ground, built from satellite and elevation data, and ends where the Torah begins again on Simchat Torah, with God looking at everything He made and calling it very good.

This stop is being written. The reading above is complete and the map is right; the walk itself, in my own words from the ground, comes in order as the book is finished. Stop 1, Shechem, is written in full if you want to see the shape of a chapter.
Supporting passages and the contested points for this stop are already fixed in the spine of the book and will be printed here.
